Sensing

The other day something truly bizarre happened to me.

It started with a doctor's appointment.

This wasn't my regular doctor, and from what I understood, it wouldn't be a very long appointment.

I had been to this doctor's office only once before and it was several months ago.

The day of the appointment came, and I walked into the office. It was just as I remembered.

I said a brief hello to the two people working at reception and then proceeded to the waiting area to sign myself in.

That was the sign-in process, it was hand-written by the patients.

I did as I remembered I should and then sat down in the waiting area.

I should mention two things at this point.

Firstly, I was about 10 minutes early for my appointment.

Secondly, I consider myself to be fairly perceptive. For instance, I realized that all the other patients who had signed in had their names crossed off. This likely meant that my 10 minute early arrival might pay off with an early visit from the doctor.

I felt optimistic about that, then sat down and started replying to an email on my phone.

Before I could get through the first sentence of my reply, the doctor arrived and called me into their office.

Like I imagined, the appointment did not take very long at all. It literally lasted about one minute or perhaps even less.

On my way back out, one of the people working at the reception remarked about the speed of the appointment. I agreed, and continued to head to my car.

On the way to my car, a song entered my head.

This often happens to me. Songs enter my head all the time. Sometimes, I have a desire to then open up Spotify and listen to them, but most times I will just continue to enjoy them in my head.

The song that entered my head on this particular occasion was Celine Dion's 90's banger, "It's All Coming Back to Me Now."

Naturally, when a banger like that enters your head, you start humming. Perhaps even harmonizing, riffing, or doing whatever you feel like because it's a banger for goodness sake.

Eventually, I get to my car.

Then I turn on the radio.

Of all the songs that could have possibly been playing at that exact moment ...

I found myself listening to the middle of Celine Dion's 90's banger, "It's All Coming Back to Me Now."

If you're experiencing anything like what I experienced in that moment, you've landed on two possibilities. One which you immediately eliminated.

I am not a psychic.

The only other explanation is that the song was playing somewhere and had somehow entered my head. But where? And when?

Where I live, most doctors' offices play the same radio station. It's a fairly safe station with something called a no-repeat workday, which allows for 50 minutes of uninterrupted music. It's a great deal. It's the radio station that I turn on by default in my car.

But here's the thing, I cannot remember hearing any music playing in that doctor's office.

I know I wasn't in there for a long time, but like I said, I consider myself to be a fairly perceptive person.

Here's the other thing, music had to have been playing in that doctor's office, because like I said, I'm not a psychic.

The only explanation I have been able to come up with here, is that my subconscious was listening, happened to hear a banger, and then let it into my conscious mind when the moment was right.

This got me thinking about two things and I'd like to leave you with those same two things now, dear reader.

Firstly, what else is my subconscious listening to?

Secondly, how will I know?
