Big Things, Little Things

A week before writing this, my family and I just got back from a month-long vacation.

Upon returning, I quickly noticed that different things started taking up space in my head.

Let's walk through this, visually.

Let's start with our head.

A simple black circle outlined on a light gray background. Minimalistic design with no text or additional elements.

Notice, there's a limited amount of space in it.

During the regular course of our lives, we can fill it with big things and little things.

Blue and red circles inside a large black-outlined circle on a light gray background. Blue circles are larger, evenly spaced; red are smaller.

While on vacation, the little things sort of disappeared for me.

Three large blue circles and several smaller light gray circles are enclosed in a black-outlined circle on a light gray background.

It was a wonderful feeling. It felt spacious. It felt like I could actually see all the contours of the big things and really look at them.

After getting home, the little things started to show up again.

A circle with 3 large blue and 9 small pink circles inside on a light gray background. Simple geometric design.

Pretty quickly, the little things started to feel like big things.

Colorful circles in a pattern: large blue and red circles, smaller pink ones, arranged within and around a black-outlined circle on a light gray background.

But this isn't how it should be, right? There's not enough space!

I needed to right-size this.

Large blue and small red circles inside a black-outlined circle on a light gray background, creating a playful abstract design.

We need to keep the big things big, and the little things little.

And once in a while, we need to let go of the little things.

So that we can focus on the big things.
